La Jolla Kayak in the Community

Owners Michael and Sharon Luscomb believe it is important to give back to the local community. Hundreds of people have had a chance to experience the beauty of the ocean environment thanks to their generosity.

Here are some of their recent efforts to support their neighbors:

In July La Jolla Kayak hosted dozens of children from the Viejas band of Kumeyaay Indians for a morning of ocean kayaking. The children were participating in the Desert-Ocean-Mountains program which teaches tribal children about their heritage beyond the boundaries of the reservation. This was the first trip to the beach for many of these children.

On consecutive weekends in June, La Jolla Kayak hosted over 100 families who had lost their homes in the devastating wildfires of 2007 to a ‘Day at the Beach.” The families got to take a well needed break from the stress of re-building their lives to spend a day kayaking, boogie boarding, snorkeling and just hanging out at the beach.
