Whale Watching

La Jolla Kayak Whale Watching Tours

Ditch the crowded boats and hop in a kayak for an intimate experience with these majestic mammals!

Beginning in December and running through April, over 20,000 gray whales make a 10,000 mile round-trip journey from Alaska to the lagoons of Baja California, where the females give birth to their calves. They typically spend several months in the warm Baja California waters to benefit the growth of their young and journey home up north in the spring. These whales travel the longest distance that any mammal migrates on an annual basis, making it an extraordinary event to witness.

There's no better way to experience the winter migration of gray whales than on a kayak. With 70 miles of coastline directly in the migration path, San Diego is the perfect destination to see the impressive parade of the gentle giants!

The 2.5 hour kayak tour will begin with a 30-minute check-in where you will be matched with your guide and fitted with your equipment. We will then walk down to the La Jolla Shores beach, do a 15-minute paddle instruction, and then take off in the kayaks for our whale watching tour. Your total time on the water is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Age 6+ for double kayak tours (with an adult.) Age 15+ for single kayak tours. Weight restrictions are 500 lbs maximum for double kayaks. You will receive a full refund if cancelled 48 hours before the excursion.
